In 1914, as part of 2nd Cavalry Brigade these moved on mobilisation from I Corps to 1st Cavalry Division, which held the left flank for I Corps' assault at the battle of Gumbinnen.

  1. Love these Stephen! These early war uniforms are really wonderful. Inspired by your recent post you've got me reading up on the early war stuff. Incredible that the Germans threw themselves into a two front war. I noticed you've based them for battalion sized games, what rules will you use?

    1. Phil Robinson and Dave Bickley are working on a new set and have kindly let me have an early draft to try out, but we may also try a varient of BP, if I ever paint enough toys!

  2. Oh, that sounds interesting! There certainly is enough skirmish rules for the later part of the war, but not much to support the pre-trench 1914-15 mammoth battles conducted with the old tactics. BP is my preferred choice for the Franco-Prussian War, which has many similarities with 1914-15. BP could work if one builds in some off-table artillery barrage perhaps. Anyways, I shall follow this with great interest, you've got some wonderful minis so far! Will you be playing in Denmark at some point, or will the minis "migrate" to the UK?

    1. The first game shouldn't be far off and, unless Inka gets offered a dream professorship somewhere else, looks like they'll be staying in Denmark for the foreseeable future ;-)
