Legio Mortis VI

The next session focused on painting and assembling the hull interior:

As you can no doubt see, I've used my hobby knife to cut criss crosses into those parts about to be glued together.

Next week, I'll move onto pinning the arms to the shoulders, and start painting the gun servitors.

Spring Offensive III

A crisp frost meant I could crack some varnishing outside and finish off two more stands. The left flank of North and Grey's and the Centre companies of the 1st Foot Guards (colours to follow):

Legion X Equestris

Next batch of 18 Legionaries:

Based for Hail Caesar:

and for Clash of Empires:

Spring Offensive II

Based on some information from Ray King, the grenadier caps for North and Greys needed a little reworking. I also took the chance to redo the eyes:

Then it was onto the left flank companies of the 1st Regiment of Foot Guards (with a different approach to the faces, which probably means revisiitng North and Grey's again  ):

Next up, the left flank companies of North and Grey's and the centre companies of the 1st Foot Guards :D

Legio Mortis V

So with the festivities and what not out of the way, it was time to get on with the Warhound. On assembly, I found that one of the pins holes was quite a way off line. In retrospect, I would have drilled these after assembly:

Following some advice off a Danish friend, the shield generators are attached with magnets. So if a shield goes down, one can be removed :-)

And the first of the weapons - again magnetised:

Onto painting…

Spring Offensive

As so often happens, a new project has come from left of field. Towards the end of last year, I made the unusual (for me) commitment to a Kickstarter, in this case Ebor's Great Northern War Swedes to be sculpted by the ever fruitful Paul Hicks. However, they are not due to be in production until May, and the froth was strong.

However, over a decade ago, I made a few hesitant steps towards recreating the battle of Almanza 1707 using Age of Reason. It all came to nothing due to the crazy number of figures required to do both sides - not to mention the lack of an opponent. So the first batch of lead went into boxes where it has rested until now. A quick bit of organising and an order to Front Rank to fill missing gaps now sees me with enough to do two four battalion brigades of infantry with cavalry to follow (I can probably scrape together a mixed understrength Horse and Dragoon force at a push) based for Beneath Lily Banners.

So here is the first batch of six figures, the right hand companies of North and Grey's Foot that formed part of Rowe's Bde at Blenheim in 1704:

Legion VIII

My first full legion ready for action, Legion VIII:

One of the oldest units in Roman service, Legion VIII was founded by Pompay in 65 B.C. but became one of Caesar's most trusted legions after it had been transferred to Cisalpine Gaul in 58 B.C. Under Augustus Caesar this unit gained the title Augusta.

We are Legion!

First batch of Legionaries - half a unit of eighteen figures.

The aim is to have two units completed by the end of the month.

They based to be used with either Clash of Empire or Hail Caesar, i.e. two ranks of nine for the latter and three of six for the former :-)

Anyway, back to finishing off some more Forge World loveliness...
